MAC’S CONVENIENCE STORES INSTALLING 379 TRITON® TCP/IP-ENABLED ATMs

Enhanced ATM Communications Capability Reduces Connectivity Costs and Transaction Times

Long Beach, MS, July 8, 2003— Mac’s Convenience Stores is currently installing 379 new Triton® ATMs with advanced TCP/IP communication capabilities at its Bigfoot, Dairy Mart, Handy Andy, and Mac’s stores. The Triton ATMs will connect to the eFunds ATM processing network through existing high speed in-store wide area networks (WANs). The connection technology will reduce transaction processing times for Mac’s customers and decrease communication costs. eFunds, a Triton distributor, is providing and installing the new Triton ATMs.

According to Mac’s senior business manager Jeff Bippus, Mac’s is also upgrading a number of existing dial-up ATMs to TCP/IP so the firm will be able to take advantage of the high-speed eFunds network. “The upgrades to existing Triton units and installation of the new TCP/IP-equipped Triton ATMs will allow us to avoid monthly and per transaction charges for dial-up phone lines at some 420 store locations,” Mr. Bippus said. “We will also reduce ATM transaction times significantly, giving our customers more time to make other purchases and be on their way.”

Until recently, the only realistic alternative to dial-up connectivity for convenience store ATMs was leased line, which was significantly more expensive. “Many convenience store chains now have WANs connecting POS devices, inventory control, and revenue recognition systems at multiple branches,” said Bill Jackson, chief technical officer for Triton. “The benefits of Triton’s TCP/IP connectivity option are not limited to convenience stores. Casinos, department stores, financial institutions, and even cruise ships can eliminate the cost associated with a dedicated phone line or lease line while increasing transaction speed by utilizing TCP/IP connections to their existing infrastructure.”

Mac’s Convenience Stores is the American operating unit of Quebec’s Alimentation Couche-Tarde. It currently operates more than 500 convenience stores under four brands and is expanding rapidly. “ATM services represent an important component of our overall retail strategy,” said Jeff Bippus. “ATMs make a significant contribution to our total sales and traffic volumes
