Long Beach, Miss., Oct. 4, 2004 – To celebrate 10 years of having automated teller machines in retail locations, Triton, a leading manufacturer of ATMs, is holding a contest to find the oldest retail unit still in operation. Machines must be in use and in possession of original owners.
To mark this milestone in the growth of the transactions industry, Triton is asking ATM distributors to submit as many entries as they would like. The distributors and machine owners must provide the age, ownership and location of the ATMs. Entries will not be taken after 10:00 p.m. (CST), Nov. 5, 2004.
The winning distributor and the ATM owner will each receive a new Triton 9100 monochrome screen ATM, the best selling ATM in the market today.
“We hope to have many entries to mark this significant milestone,” Triton President Brian Kett said. “The introduction of the retail ATM brought a host of new players to the world of transactions and gave small retailers important new ways to increase direct customer revenues.”
Ten years ago, a convenience store in Diamondhead, Miss., installed the first bill-dispensing ATM designed specifically for use in retail locations, a Triton model 9500. As a result, ATMs now appear in most convenience stores, supermarkets and shopping
malls, as well as a multitude of other locations. With wireless technology, the retail ATM no longer requires a phone line and can serve almost any location, including national parks, ferry boats and outdoor events.
